I am often told I like too many things. People who tell me this imply I like everything, and so lack the focus to discern between things. (They seem frustrated by this.) But they’re wrong. I don’t like everything. Just the every-things that make me, or have the true potential to make me feel more alive. Usually, those things have one quality in common: they are creative… as in created by man or nature. Which I’m sure you’ll think only serves to prove the point of those accusing me of non-discernment. And so that’s where this blog comes in. You see, the answer, as usual, is in creating. “The New Bohemians” is my attempt to connect with the “apparent non-discerners.” Those who love knowing about trends, if not following them. A new bohemian is not necessarily a member of a British band with a front-man named Eddie. But they do like “Rent” and identify with the underlying ode to La Vie Boheme… as much as they like reading dwell magazine, even though they’re not architects, and would love to know that a very baroque church in Prague uses Eero Saarinen Tulip chairs instead of pews, just for the sheer positive rebelliousness of it all. And so, for those of you, for me, for us… this is our blog.
